I am Joan Cowden, Herbalist, Teacher,
and Medicine Maker.
My wonderful half-Irish mother named me after herself, for which I am truly grateful.
And after Joan of Arc. With a chuckle, I always wonder if she regretted that.
My Journey With Herbs
From the early 1970s I knew I would work with herbs. My journey first led me though paramedic work, then to working with the energies of our magical bodies. Woven into those was an immersion in herbal folk traditions, then Clinical Herbalism. I have benefitted from the words of Matthew Wood, Lisa Ganora, Jim McDonald, Sam Coffman and Guido Mase’, who encouraged me; and Mentors Paul Bergner and Mary Barnes, who guided my clinical studies.
I am a member of the American Herbalist’s Guild, and an ambassador for the Global Coherence Initiative division of the HeartMath Institute, which explores our energetic connections to the planet, and intuitive heart flows between living beings. Forty years of nutritional study, energy healing practices, and health freedom advocacy also inform my work. I see clients and teach in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
